Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – At Your Service
Welcome back for another Sunday snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s eight sentence excerpt is from my brand-new release, CUP OF SUGAR, and follows shortly after last week’s snippet. Conn and Nia have been neighbors for about eight months, the duration of which Nia has shyly avoided Conn — though he’s aware that she has been watching him do all kinds of things.
The story opens on New Year’s Eve, when Conn arrives home to find Nia sitting in her car, which is not running. Here we go…
“Everything okay, Nia?”“My car won’t start.”
Chalk this one up as a late Christmas present from the universe. He motioned at the passenger door. She nodded in response, so he opened it, stuck his head and shoulders inside. “I’m at your service, I can jump you or give you a ride.”
She squeaked—actually squeaked—and the frost melted from her expression. Oh, she was still pink in the cheeks, the color just didn’t look cold-weather induced.

Well, look at that—Nia’s little Chevy, its lights on, but not running. Perfect timing.Conn pulled into his half of the joined driveway and parked beside her car. For the eight months since she’d moved in next door, the twenty-four feet of asphalt separating their houses had been almost impassable. Today’s eight-sentence snippet is from CROSSING THE LINE. A reader left the most amazing review of Crossing on Amazon this week, and it reminded me how much I love this story & these characters.
In this snippet, Hanna, the heroine, is talking to her best friend about the weekend trip she’s embarking on — which happens to be a threesome weekend with her husband and his lifelong best friend — but Megan doesn’t know who the “third” is. To appease her nosy friend, Hanna is describing the guy.
“He’s a bit over six feet with short, dark hair. A strong nose—”“Wait — is that a nice way of saying he has a big honker?”
“It’s not that big.”
