Sunday Snippet – ICING ON THE CAKE – Bad Behavior
Welcome back for another Sunday snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from ICING ON THE CAKE, Book 2 of the Close to Home series. (Catch up on previous snippets here.)
Consummate badgirl Sara is the maid of honor at her sister’s impending fairytale wedding. Curtis is the groom-to-be’s tall, dark & tattooed brother, aka the best man, and unfortunately for Sara, he’s also a cop. And we all know cops & badgirls don’t mix…
Curtis caught her arm when she tried to spin away. He met her narrowed gaze with an unwavering stare of his own. “Just making sure everything goes smoothly for my brother. And your sister.”
She yanked, and his fingers tightened around her wrist. “By handcuffing me to six feet of good behavior?”
“Six-two. And babe, if and when I put the cuffs on you, you can count on my behavior being very, very bad.”

ICING ON THE CAKE
Nia and Conn’s wedding will be fairytale perfect…if their siblings can get along.
Free-spirited, anti-establishment Sara has always been on the outside of her family’s fairytale mold. Now she’s being forced smack into the middle of it at her sister Nia’s wedding. Alongside the cocky and annoyingly sexy best man—Conn’s cop brother.
Curtis doesn’t buy in to organized romance and fairytales. But for his brother, he’ll throw on a tux and fake it for a few hours. His flak vest would have been a better choice around the maid of honor. He should have brought his handcuffs too, because somebody needs to restrain the dark-haired spitfire—and he’s just the man for the job.
One night to indulge the spark between them, then goodbye—that was the agreement. Curtis isn’t looking for a relationship and he sure doesn’t want a troublemaker for a girlfriend. The last thing Sara needs in her daily life is a cop looking over her shoulder, no matter how hot he is.
But giving in to their chemistry is much more fun than giving it up…

His eyes twinkled and the corner of his mouth twitched. “Curtis Lawler, Conn’s older brother.” He didn’t offer a hand to shake—just stepped closer, completely invading her personal space. “And you’re Sara.”
“Figured that out on your own, detective, or did they show you my mug shot in advance to make things easier?”
“It’s Constable first class, but that’s a mouthful, even for one that works as well as yours. Probably easiest if you call me sir.”
“Never going to happen, lawman.”
“Never’s a long time,” Curtis’ gaze locked with hers and a wicked smile curved his sensual lips, “and for the record, I’m not a patient man.”

Sunday Snippet – ICING ON THE CAKE – When Curtis Met Sara, Part 1
Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Ready for another eight-sentence excerpt from ICING ON THE CAKE? This is one of my favorite parts of the book—where Sara and Curtis meet for the first time.
We’re with Sara as she tries to slip out of the church after her sister’s wedding rehearsal. Curtis is the best man, and since he’s been charged with keeping an eye of the trouble-making maid of honor, he’s about to intervene.
“Last one to show up, now the first one to leave.” Conn’s brother took a few more steps, positioning himself between Sara and the outer door. He tucked his hands into the front pockets of some fine-fitting jeans. “You’re not trying to skip out on the rehearsal party, are you?” His stance and tone were casual. His pointed remarks, not so much.“Aww, isn’t this sweet? We haven’t even been formally introduced and already you’re devastated at the thought of an evening without me.”
Check back next Sunday to read Curtis’ response. Or better yet, buy the book and read the whole snarktastic, sexy thing right now. 😉

Sunday Snippet – ICING ON THE CAKE – The Favor
It’s July and ICING ON THE CAKE has released! Woohoo! We’ll be spending time with Curtis & Sara for the next couple months for the Sunday Snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. I hope you enjoy their fireworks!
Chapter One of ICING ON THE CAKE opens the day before Conn & Nia’s (from CUP OF SUGAR) wedding in Nia’s tiny hometown, six hours north of the city where the characters currently reside. And since Sara, the maid of honor, is conspicuously absent from the impending wedding rehearsal, Conn recruits help from his brother, the best man…
“Since you’re flying solo this weekend, I need a favor.” Conn’s smile thinned. “Keep an eye on Sara, make sure she doesn’t cause any trouble.”
“Babysitting detail.”
“Yeah.”
“Is she that bad?”
“I hope not,” Conn said as the church’s front door slammed and all heads turned toward the entryway from the vestibule.
Call him fucked-up, but one look at the dark-haired beauty who’d just strutted into the building, and Curtis kinda hoped Sara lived up to her troublemaker reputation.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Just a Slip
It’s time for another Sunday snippet from CUP OF SUGAR, Book 1 in the Close to Home series. (PS: Book 2, ICING ON THE CAKE releases July 1st.)
For a full list of participants in today’s 8-sentence snippet meme, visit the Weekend Writing Warriors website.
If you’ve been following along, you know we’re with Nia & Conn, new-ish neighbors who’ve taken a very spontaneous road trip together. (Catch up on previous snippets here.) And here we go with the snippet…
Yes, Conn was friendly, sweet and easy to be around. And hotness—he owned that category. She’d been smart to keep her distance the past eight months. Last night had been a slip in judgment—a world-rocking, toe-curling slip—but not the beginning of something.
Conn was interested in her, but judging from the array of female visitors to his house, he was interested in a lot of women. He didn’t even appear to have a type. Nia hadn’t seen any sign of a steady girlfriend since she moved in. She had no problem with Conn’s preference for variety, but she couldn’t stomach being part of his buffet.

Nia has one rule—don’t date neighbors. Simple, except the guy next door is single, handsome, and not inclined to close his blinds while naked. When her car dies, Conn takes “being neighborly” to a new level by offering a ride to her long-distance destination. Nia has resisted his looks and charm for months. Surely she can handle a few hours in his truck…
For months, Conn has blatantly put himself on display, hoping his pretty blonde neighbor would tire of secretly watching and come knock on his door for a cup of sugar—or more. No such luck—until an unusual opportunity arises. After a six-hour drive turns into a sweet-and-sexy weekend, Conn wants more than neighborly status with Nia. To get it, he must convince her to break the rule protecting her heart—by putting his on the line.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Getting Closer
Time for another Sunday snippet. 🙂 Remember to check out the list of participating Weekend Writing Warriors when you’re done here.
For the next four weeks, I’ll be continuing with little excerpts from CUP OF SUGAR. If you’ve been following along, or you’ve already read the book, you know that new-ish neighbors Conn and Nia have taken an unexpected road trip together. After an unexpected (and seriously hot) night together in a roadside motel, they’ve arrived at Nia’s parents’ house, where Nia received some bad news about a childhood pet.
“You okay?” He kept his voice low—he could do that, since he was now standing directly behind her, close enough for her to smell his aftershave. He settled his big hands on her shoulders, gently kneading.
She groaned, which was definitely a mistake, because it made him pull her closer. He was so solid and warm, she wanted to melt into him. Let him console her about Princess. Watch him get comfortable with her family. Oh, and she wanted to rub her ass against the front of his jeans—then turn and kiss him until she couldn’t see straight. There was that.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – It Could Get Awkward If…
Welcome back to another eight sentences from CUP OF SUGAR, brought to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. I don’t think this snippet needs much introduction. 😉
“You want me to stop?” He punctuated the question by circling her belly button with the tip of his tongue.
She shook her head, prompting Conn to slide her pants lower. Not all the way down, the silky bottoms still covered the most important part, though the fabric did nothing to mask the heat from his mouth when he pressed it against her core.
“Conn, we shouldn’t…it’ll be awkward seeing each other every day if the sex sucks.”
His chuckle vibrated between her legs. His eyes twinkled up at her, and when he lifted his head, his smile was down-and-dirty hot. “It won’t suck, Nia.”

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Just a Kiss
Thanks for joining me and the rest of the Weekend Writing Warriors as we offer up eight-sentence excerpts from our work.
We’re spending time with Conn and Nia, neighbors who are getting a whole lot closer on New Year’s Eve. When Nia’s car died, Conn stepped up and offered to drive Nia to her long-distance destination—in a snow storm. Weather forced them to take refuge in a small motel that only had one room remaining. Oh, fate. 😉
This time, he didn’t hesitate. Just sealed his mouth against hers and took control.
She opened for him. Welcomed his tongue inside, greeting it with hers. A New Year’s Eve kiss, that’s as far as she’d let this go. Her brain failed to get that message to her hands, though, because they were in the process of pulling off Conn’s t-shirt.
“You’re so hard,” she said, running her palms over his chest.
“Sweetheart, you have no idea.”

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Invitation Accepted
Time for another eight-sentence Sunday snippet from CUP OF SUGAR. Click here for a list of other participants in the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Today’s bite-sized excerpt follows closely after last week’s offering. New-ish neighbors Conn and Nia are spending New Year’s Eve snowed in at a rural motel. (Catch up on past posts from the story here.) They’re watching the celebration from New York’s Times Square, and Nia has invited Conn to sit beside her on the room’s only bed for a better view of the TV. (I’m sure she has no ulterior motives. 😉 )
Well, Conn is a big, solid guy and you know how squishy and wobbly those motel-room beds can be…
“I don’t mind if you move over…you know, so you don’t fall off the edge of the bed.”
Invitation accepted. The springy mattress pitched her against him as he edged closer. Her breast pressed against his biceps and her hand landed high on his quadriceps. A couple inches to the north and she’d have had something entirely different to grab hold of.
“Sorry.” Her apology came out soft and breathy. She hadn’t stopped leaning on his arm — nor had she looked away.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Pretzelgasm
Thanks for stopping by to read my Sunday Snippet. This eight-sentence bite is from my recent release, CUP OF SUGAR, and comes to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
If you’ve been following along on Sundays, you already know that Conn and Nia have been neighbors for eight months, during which Conn has been pulling out all the stops (and taking off his clothes near the window) to get Nia’s attention. But Nia has a rule about dating neighbors, so she has been doing her best to avoid the hunky man next door. (Though she has certainly enjoyed watching him get into his shower.)
Currently though, they’re sharing a motel room late on a snowy New Year’s Eve. (Catch up on previous snippets here.) They’re watching TV (well, sort of) and Conn has just given Nia a bag of Combos to snack on.
She tore into the bag like a kid would a Christmas present. She popped the first pretzel piece into her mouth and closed her eyes. Her lips moved in a circular motion and her cheeks hollowed. Then she moaned. The woman looked and sounded as if she was on the verge of an orgasm. From pretzels.
Jesus, how would she respond to his face between her legs, or his cock buried deep in her body while he kissed her? He was never going to make it through this night.
