Sunday Snippet – ICING ON THE CAKE – When Curtis Met Sara, Part 2
Welcome back. đ The Sunday snippet is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme, so click over there for a list of participants when you’re done here.
This week’s offering follows directly after last week’s bite-sized excerpt from ICING ON THE CAKE. If you missed it, take a quick peek to catch up. đ
His eyes twinkled and the corner of his mouth twitched. âCurtis Lawler, Connâs older brother.â He didnât offer a hand to shakeâjust stepped closer, completely invading her personal space. âAnd youâre Sara.â
âFigured that out on your own, detective, or did they show you my mug shot in advance to make things easier?â
âItâs Constable first class, but thatâs a mouthful, even for one that works as well as yours. Probably easiest if you call me sir.â
âNever going to happen, lawman.â
âNeverâs a long time,â Curtisâ gaze locked with hers and a wicked smile curved his sensual lips, âand for the record, Iâm not a patient man.â

Nia and Connâs wedding will be fairytale perfectâŚif their siblings can get along.
Free-spirited, anti-establishment Sara has always been on the outside of her familyâs fairytale mold. Now sheâs being forced smack into the middle of it at her sister Niaâs wedding. Alongside the cocky and annoyingly sexy best manâConnâs cop brother.
Curtis doesnât buy in to organized romance and fairytales. But for his brother, heâll throw on a tux and fake it for a few hours. His flak vest would have been a better choice around the maid of honor. He should have brought his handcuffs too, because somebody needs to restrain the dark-haired spitfireâand heâs just the man for the job.
One night to indulge the spark between them, then goodbyeâthat was the agreement. Curtis isnât looking for a relationship and he sure doesnât want a troublemaker for a girlfriend. The last thing Sara needs in her daily life is a cop looking over her shoulder, no matter how hot he is.
But giving in to their chemistry is much more fun than giving it up⌠-

Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Ready for another eight-sentence excerpt from ICING ON THE CAKE? This is one of my favorite parts of the bookâwhere Sara and Curtis meet for the first time.
We’re with Sara as she tries to slip out of the church after her sister’s wedding rehearsal. Curtis is the best man, and since he’s been charged with keeping an eye of the trouble-making maid of honor, he’s about to intervene.
âLast one to show up, now the first one to leave.â Connâs brother took a few more steps, positioning himself between Sara and the outer door. He tucked his hands into the front pockets of some fine-fitting jeans. âYouâre not trying to skip out on the rehearsal party, are you?â His stance and tone were casual. His pointed remarks, not so much.âAww, isnât this sweet? We havenât even been formally introduced and already youâre devastated at the thought of an evening without me.â
Check back next Sunday to read Curtis’ response. Or better yet, buy the book and read the whole snarktastic, sexy thing right now. đ

Sunday Snippet – ICING ON THE CAKE – Prologue
Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Starting today, I’ll be posting from my July 1st release, ICING ON THE CAKE, Book 2 of the Close to Home series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I still think it’s better if you read CUP OF SUGAR first. (PS: CUP OF SUGAR is on sale for 99¢)
I’ve never included a prologue in a book before, but there’s one in ICING ON THE CAKE, a short scene that revisits Conn & Nia before the new leads’ story starts. So here’s a little sample from that…
âTheyâll be here soon. I checked the highway report a few minutes ago, everythingâs clear and accident-free,â Conn said while wrapping his arms around her.
âFor now. Look at it out there…it just keeps coming.â
He slid his hand lower, inside the front of her jeans. âKind of reminds me of you.â
Nia’s breath hitched as her body responded to his touch. âThis isnât a good time.â
âI disagree, sweetheartâyou coming for me is always a good time.â
COMING SOON â July 1st

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Authority
It’s Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This is the last Sunday I’ll be sharing from CUP OF SUGAR. Next week I’ll be teasing you with snippets from Book 2 of series, so I hope you’ll stay tuned.
If you’ve enjoyed the CUP OF SUGAR excerpts, now’s a great time to pick it up, because it’s on sale for 99¢ for a limited time.
So, for the final snippet from this neighbors-to-lovers story, let’s go with something fun and a little bit dirty. đ
âLet me do this,â the tip of her tongue swirled around his cock, âI want you to come in my mouth.âHe groaned. As if he could refuse that offer.
Her lips closed around him, took half his length, then slid back up, releasing him. âCan I tell you something?â
âSweetheart, youâre sucking my cock. You just told me to come in your mouth. That pretty much gives you authority to say anything.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Meeting Sara
Welcome back for another Sunday snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week, we’re still with Conn in CUP OF SUGAR. He’s meeting Sara (Nia’s sister), for the first time. Sara is the lead in my upcoming release, ICING ON THE CAKE, so take note of this snarky spitfire. đ
âWhoaâwho are you? And why was I not advised of your presence in advance, so I could wear something more appropriate. Or less appropriate, actually.â Sara shrugged out of a short, silver jacket and tossed it on a chair. âThat dog is enormous, does it bite?â She gave Conn a no-holds-barred, top-to-bottom onceover. âYouâre pretty big tooâdo you bite?â
âNo biting, youâre safe.â
âPart of me is relieved,â a suggestive wink came his way, âbut the other partâs a little disappointed.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Full Service
I can’t believe we’re a full week into June already! Sunday means snippet time, and for a list of all this week’s participants, click over to the Weekend Writing Warriors website.
This little morsel follows hot (very hot) on the heels of last week’s snippet. Conn and Nia are in her parents’ kitchen, and Conn has just apologized for accepting her mom’s invitation to stay with asking if Nia minded.
âOf course I donât mind, youâre hanging around to do me a service.â
âIâm happy to service you, sweetheart — any way, any place, any time.â
She squeakedâdamn that stupid, involuntary noiseâand tried not to fidget on the spot. Hard to do with his slow, spreading smile sending a jolt of awareness straight to her core. So much for her resolve.
âMy desire to service you aside, I think you need to understand something. Driving you here, sticking around so I can take you home tomorrowâIâm not doing those things because Iâm a nice guy.â He moved a few inches closer, his sparkling eyes never leaving her face. âThose were strictly self-serving choices, Nia. I saw an opportunity to get what I want and I took it.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Eight Months
Welcome! It’s time for the Sunday Snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Today’s eight sentences are the beginning of my upcoming release, CUP OF SUGAR, a hot contemporary romance I’ve been told is sexy-sweet and my funniest book yet. I hope you’ll enjoy Conn & Nia’s romance as much as I did while writing it. âĽ
Well, look at thatâNiaâs little Chevy, its lights on, but not running. Perfect timing.
Conn pulled into his half of the joined driveway and parked beside her car. For the eight months since sheâd moved in next door, the twenty-four feet of asphalt separating their houses had been almost impassable. Whenever he got close to crossing the distance, something or somebody got in the way. Overtime on the jobsite or a time-consuming sideline project he couldnât afford to pass up, phone calls from his family that he had to answer. His pissed-off ex dropping by to unleash her rage. Yeah, that last one had particularly sucked.
