Sunday Snippet – Romance Is Dangerous – Body of Work

Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors eight-sentence meme.

This week finds us with Cassie and Brian from BODY OF WORK, with Cassie giving the sweet-talking hero her thoughts on romance…

“You have something against romance?” he asked.

“Yes, actually, I do. Romance is dangerous. And when you talk to me that way, I want more days like this. Making dinner together and endless sex and other dangerously romantic stuff. I am a woman, you know.”

His head lifted enough for her to see the twinkle in his eyes. “Oh, I did notice — though I’m always up for a refresher course of that fact.”

    Everybody’s Doing the 7 Meme

Over on Facebook, three of my awesome author friends — Cara Bristol, Stacey Kennedy and Siobhan Muir — tagged me to participate in a “7” meme. In this game, you go to page 7 or 70 in your Work in Progress and post 7 lines that include dialogue. Well, if you know my writing style, you know I love dialogue! But since this my blog, I decided to cheat a little…don’t count the lines, because there are a lot more than 7. 😉

So here goes. An unedited excerpt from page 7 of my untitled, almost-finished WIP:

    “Hey dream girl.”

That voice. She turned—gravitated, really—toward the rich sound. Several people stood between her and the owner’s twinkling, deep-blue eyes. She silently mouthed the words ‘hey asshole’, but her face betrayed her yet again by smiling. Without apologizing, he detoured around the customers separating them and deposited his armful of products behind her heaping pile.

“You just cut in front of four people.”

“I wanted to be behind you.” He took his time perusing her body before meeting her eyes again. “I’m sure nobody blames me for that.”

“She does.” Paige pointed at the somewhat-shrunken woman chirping at him in Italian. Or maybe Portuguese. Hard to tell which, but the lady was definitely peeved.

He showed zero concern, didn’t even bother to look. “Did my t-shirt keep you warm last night?”

“Very.” She leaned closer to him. “Especially when I was lying on my sheepskin rug…watching it burn in the fireplace.”

He barked out a laugh, attracting the attention of everyone in their line and beyond. “That was my favorite t-shirt.”

“I don’t think you’ll miss it.” She nodded at his current apparel—an identical, plain black t-shirt.

He shook his head, still smiling. “Big attitude for such a tiny thing.”

    “I’m not tiny.”

“No?” He stepped closer. Invaded her space with his massive everything.

“I’m average. You’re just—” Her eyes drifted across his shoulders, then down. “Huge.” Heat flared in her cheeks as the last word slipped from her mouth in a breathy tone that belonged in the bedroom, not the superstore checkout line. Shit. “Don’t even go there.”

He shrugged, a wolfish grin spreading across his stubble-shadowed face. “You said it, not me.”

And now they both knew she was thinking about his cock. Awesome.

That’s all for now. What you think… Like it? Hate it?

    Sunday Snippet-Body of Work

Thanks for stopping by to read my Sunday Snippet. We’re still hanging out with Brian and Cassie from BODY OF WORK. In this little scene, Brian, the 6’2″ hero, is reaching around Cassie. That’s all the setup you should need. 😉

“Long arms for the win,” he said as her eyes tracked his movement.

“I like that you’re big.” A pink blush flooded her cheeks. “I didn’t mean your — you know.”

Both of them looked down at his you know.

“Not big enough?” As if commanded, his cock stood a little taller. Good boy.

On to the snippet. What woman wouldn’t like to hear a speech like this one, from Brian to Cassie…

    ♥◊♥

“Give me a taste of rough and raw and I have to fight not to get lost in it, to give in to my possessiveness. And it’s so fucking strong with you. If I had my way, I’d tattoo my name on your pretty little body as a warning to anybody who dared look too closely, and a reminder to you exactly where you belong. Then I’d keep you so incredibly well-fucked you wouldn’t have the time or energy to look at another man.”

At some point during his speech, her bones must’ve dissolved, because she’d utterly melted against his big, hard body. “Stay.”

    “There’s more.”

“I don’t care — tell me after I’m so well-fucked the only thing I can do is lie there and listen.”

    Sunday Snippet – Game Plan

GP-paperbackSince tomorrow is Canada Day, I’m pulling eight sentences from GAME PLAN. There’s an integral scene in Game Plan that occurs on Canada Day, as the hero takes the heroine to meet his friends and family for the first time, at his family’s annual barbecue bash. Andie’s nervous, so to distract her as they’re making their entrance, Mason has this to say to her…

“All right, here’s one thing I’ve been thinking about all week — you, naked on your stomach, hands stretched above your head while I do a dot-to-dot using your freckles and my tongue. I’m gonna start with the one under your left ear.”

    “Where’s the last dot?”

The squeaky gate drew attention. At least half a dozen pairs of eyes zoned in on their next move. He smiled at their audience, lowered his head to whisper in her ear, “Are you aware of the little mole you have down low in the crack of your ass?”

She turned her head to face him, wide-eyed. Yeah, she knew exactly where he planned to put his tongue.

Sunday Snippet – Body of Work

It’s summer here! Finally! Today’s Sunday snippet is from BODY OF WORK, and comes to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. It’s summer where Brian and Cassie are, too. In this excerpt, they’re in her backyard, attempting to have a dinner date, but Cassie’s barbeque has just died a spectacular death on her patio, and she’s agreed to let him get rid of the debris for her.

And, here we go, with the snippet. Take it away, Brian…

bodyofwork“Anything else I can take care of?”

She tapped a finger on his chest and tried not to giggle. Or give too much credence to his offer, tempting as it was to picture him as the man of her house. “Do you do yard work?”

“I do.” A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. The wind that followed set fire to her panties. “But I know for a fact you don’t have a bush that needs trimming.”

    Sunday Snippet-Body of Work

Welcome. 🙂 Today’s bite-sized excerpt is from BODY OF WORK, and is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.

This snippet finds Brian at Cassie’s house for a dinner date…only they’re not thinking about food, unless you consider catnip salad? blue-divider-png

“You’re like catnip. I want to rub my body against you and purr.”

“I don’t have a problem with that.” His fingertips slid under the hemline of her top. “I like it when you purr.”

“What about when I scratch?” She raked her fingernails upward, through his hair. “Or bite?”

    bodyofworkBlurb

Cassie has fantasized about the ginger-haired personal trainer for months. Brian is friendly, but never more—until he appears on her doorstep and shows her how much her flirting has affected him. The more she’s with him, the more Cassie wants the fairytale, not just hot sex with the six-two hunk. She can give Brian full access to her body, but after her ex’s reaction to her explicit photography business, sharing her secrets, and her heart, isn’t an option.

Brian knows better than to break the rules. Don’t date gym members. Keep his inner beast on a leash during sex. Cassie tested his resolve on number one her first day in the gym. Shattered the second rule when he touched her. The petite pixie shares his preferences in the bedroom. She makes him laugh and love—but past mistakes haunt him, emotionally and tangibly. Cassie’s worth the price he’ll pay for breaking the rules. Now he must convince her to give him her heart.

This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from BODY OF WORK, my new release featuring a 6’2″ ginger-haired personal trainer hero. He also moonlights as a bouncer at a bar, which is where this scene with the heroine takes place.

Cupping her tiny waist, he lifted her from the spot, took a few steps to the right and deposited her on the floor. “Stay.”

Sneaky little pixie darted around him and plastered her back against the damn door. “I’m not your pet.”

He crowded her. Curled his fingers under her choker-style necklace and tipped her face up. “If you were, you’d be better trained.”
