âNeverâs a long time,â Curtisâ gaze locked with hers and a wicked smile curved his sensual lips, âand for the record, Iâm not a patient man.â

Ready for another eight-sentence excerpt from ICING ON THE CAKE? This is one of my favorite parts of the bookâwhere Sara and Curtis meet for the first time.
We’re with Sara as she tries to slip out of the church after her sister’s wedding rehearsal. Curtis is the best man, and since he’s been charged with keeping an eye of the trouble-making maid of honor, he’s about to intervene.
âLast one to show up, now the first one to leave.â Connâs brother took a few more steps, positioning himself between Sara and the outer door. He tucked his hands into the front pockets of some fine-fitting jeans. âYouâre not trying to skip out on the rehearsal party, are you?â His stance and tone were casual. His pointed remarks, not so much.âAww, isnât this sweet? We havenât even been formally introduced and already youâre devastated at the thought of an evening without me.â

It’s July and ICING ON THE CAKE has released! Woohoo! We’ll be spending time with Curtis & Sara for the next couple months for the Sunday Snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. I hope you enjoy their fireworks!
Chapter One of ICING ON THE CAKE opens the day before Conn & Nia’s (from CUP OF SUGAR) wedding in Nia’s tiny hometown, six hours north of the city where the characters currently reside. And since Sara, the maid of honor, is conspicuously absent from the impending wedding rehearsal, Conn recruits help from his brother, the best man…
âSince youâre flying solo this weekend, I need a favor.” Conn’s smile thinned. “Keep an eye on Sara, make sure she doesnât cause any trouble.ââBabysitting detail.”
âYeah.â
âIs she that bad?â
âI hope not,â Conn said as the churchâs front door slammed and all heads turned toward the entryway from the vestibule.
Call him fucked-up, but one look at the dark-haired beauty whoâd just strutted into the building, and Curtis kinda hoped Sara lived up to her troublemaker reputation.

Sunday snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Starting today, I’ll be posting from my July 1st release, ICING ON THE CAKE, Book 2 of the Close to Home series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I still think it’s better if you read CUP OF SUGAR first. (PS: CUP OF SUGAR is on sale for 99¢)
I’ve never included a prologue in a book before, but there’s one in ICING ON THE CAKE, a short scene that revisits Conn & Nia before the new leads’ story starts. So here’s a little sample from that…âTheyâll be here soon. I checked the highway report a few minutes ago, everythingâs clear and accident-free,â Conn said while wrapping his arms around her.
âFor now. Look at it out there…it just keeps coming.â

This week, we’re still with Conn in CUP OF SUGAR. He’s meeting Sara (Nia’s sister), for the first time. Sara is the lead in my upcoming release, ICING ON THE CAKE, so take note of this snarky spitfire. đ
âWhoaâwho are you? And why was I not advised of your presence in advance, so I could wear something more appropriate. Or less appropriate, actually.â Sara shrugged out of a short, silver jacket and tossed it on a chair. âThat dog is enormous, does it bite?â She gave Conn a no-holds-barred, top-to-bottom onceover. âYouâre pretty big tooâdo you bite?ââNo biting, youâre safe.â
âPart of me is relieved,â a suggestive wink came his way, âbut the other partâs a little disappointed.â

I can’t believe we’re a full week into June already! Sunday means snippet time, and for a list of all this week’s participants, click over to the Weekend Writing Warriors website.
This little morsel follows hot (very hot) on the heels of last week’s snippet. Conn and Nia are in her parents’ kitchen, and Conn has just apologized for accepting her mom’s invitation to stay with asking if Nia minded.
âOf course I donât mind, youâre hanging around to do me a service.ââIâm happy to service you, sweetheart — any way, any place, any time.â
She squeakedâdamn that stupid, involuntary noiseâand tried not to fidget on the spot. Hard to do with his slow, spreading smile sending a jolt of awareness straight to her core. So much for her resolve.
âMy desire to service you aside, I think you need to understand something. Driving you here, sticking around so I can take you home tomorrowâIâm not doing those things because Iâm a nice guy.â He moved a few inches closer, his sparkling eyes never leaving her face. âThose were strictly self-serving choices, Nia. I saw an opportunity to get what I want and I took it.â
