Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Getting Closer
Time for another Sunday snippet. š Remember to check out the list of participating Weekend Writing Warriors when you’re done here.
For the next four weeks, I’ll be continuing with little excerpts from CUP OF SUGAR. If you’ve been following along, or you’ve already read the book, you know that new-ish neighbors Conn and Nia have taken an unexpected road trip together. After an unexpected (and seriously hot) night together in a roadside motel, they’ve arrived at Nia’s parents’ house, where Nia received some bad news about aĀ childhood pet.
āYou okay?ā He kept his voice lowāhe could do that, since he was now standing directly behind her, close enough for her to smell his aftershave. He settled his big hands on her shoulders, gently kneading.
She groaned, which was definitely a mistake, because it made him pull her closer. He was so solid and warm, she wanted to melt into him. Let him console her about Princess. Watch him get comfortable with her family. Oh, and she wanted to rub her ass against the front of his jeansāthen turn and kiss him until she couldnāt see straight. There was that.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – It Could Get Awkward If…
Welcome back to another eight sentences from CUP OF SUGAR, brought to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. I don’t think this snippet needs much introduction. Ā š
āYou want me to stop?ā He punctuated the question by circling her belly button with the tip of his tongue.
She shook her head, prompting Conn to slide her pants lower. Not all the way down, the silky bottoms still covered the most important part, though the fabric did nothing to mask the heat from his mouth when he pressed it against her core.
āConn, we shouldnāt…itāll be awkward seeing each other every day if the sex sucks.ā
His chuckle vibrated between her legs. His eyes twinkled up at her, and when he lifted his head, his smile was down-and-dirty hot. āIt wonāt suck, Nia.ā

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Just a Kiss
Thanks for joining me and the rest of the Weekend Writing Warriors as we offer up eight-sentence excerpts from our work.
We’re spending time with Conn and Nia, neighbors who are getting a whole lot closer on New Year’s Eve. When Nia’s car died, Conn stepped up and offered to drive Nia to her long-distance destinationāin a snow storm. Weather forced them to take refuge in a small motel that only had one room remaining. Oh, fate. Ā š
This time, he didnāt hesitate. Just sealed his mouth against hers and took control.
She opened for him. Welcomed his tongue inside, greeting it with hers. A New Yearās Eve kiss, thatās as far as sheād let this go. Her brain failed to get that message to her hands, though, because they were in the process of pulling off Connās t-shirt.
āYouāre so hard,ā she said, running her palms over his chest.
āSweetheart, you have no idea.ā

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Invitation Accepted
Time for another eight-sentence Sunday snippet from CUP OF SUGAR. Click here for a list of other participants in the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Today’s bite-sized excerpt follows closely after last week’s offering. New-ish neighbors Conn and Nia are spending New Year’s Eve snowed in at a rural motel. Ā (Catch up on past posts from the story here.) They’re watching the celebration fromĀ New York’s Times Square, and Nia has invited Conn to sit beside her on the room’s only bed for a better view of the TV. (I’m sure she has noĀ ulterior motives. š )
Well, Conn is a big, solid guy and you know how squishy and wobbly those motel-room beds can be…
āI donāt mind if you move overā¦you know, so you donāt fall off the edge of the bed.ā
Invitation accepted. The springy mattress pitched her against him as he edged closer. Her breast pressed against his biceps and her hand landed high on his quadriceps. A couple inches to the north and sheād have had something entirely different to grab hold of.
āSorry.ā Her apology came out soft and breathy. She hadnāt stopped leaning on his armĀ — nor had she looked away.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Pretzelgasm
Thanks for stopping by to read my Sunday Snippet. This eight-sentence bite is from my recent release, CUP OF SUGAR, and comes to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
If you’ve been following along on Sundays, you already know that Conn and Nia have been neighbors for eight months, during which Conn has been pulling out all the stops (and taking off his clothes near the window) to get Nia’s attention. But Nia has a rule about dating neighbors, so she has been doing her best to avoid the hunky man next door. (Though she has certainly enjoyed watching him get into his shower.)
Currently though, they’re sharing a motel room late on a snowy New Year’s Eve. (Catch up on previous snippets here.) They’re watching TV (well, sort of) and Conn has just given Nia a bag of Combos to snack on.
She tore into the bag like a kid would a Christmas present. She popped the first pretzel piece into her mouth and closed her eyes. Her lips moved in a circular motion and her cheeks hollowed. Then she moaned. The woman looked and sounded as if she was on the verge of an orgasm. From pretzels.
Jesus, how would she respond to his face between her legs, or his cock buried deep in her body while he kissed her? He was never going to make it through this night.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Can’t Look Away
For a list of writers participating in the Sunday Snippet meme, check out the Weekend Writing Warriors website.
Today we’re in Conn’s head, as he and Nia are sharing the only motel room available during a horrible snow storm that forced them off the road late on New Year’s Eve. Conn is watching TV when Nia steps out of the motel bathroom in her pajamas…
Her pale-pink pants werenāt see-through, but they might as well have been, because it was plenty evident she didnāt have anything underneath.Ā With each step she took, the little tank top shifted, rising to tease him with a hint of creamy skin. Those pants rode damn low on her hips. Hips he needed to run his hands over while she rode him.
āOh, lookā¦ā she pointed at the TV while crawling onto the bed, āRobin Thicke is performing.ā
Conn didnāt want to look. He didnāt care who was performing. Hell, they could dedicate the next song to him, live from New York City, and he still wouldnāt give a shit.

A.S. Fenichel Talks About JOSHUA’S MISTAKE
Iām so pleased to welcome one of my best friends back to the blog today. I guess I didnāt look too weird at the RWA National Conference back in 2011, because A.S. Fenichel sat down beside me and we chatted a bit. Just a few minutes later, she received an email with the cover art for her first book, MAYAN AFTERGLOW. I remember her excitement when she showed it to me. Talk about a bonding moment!
Fast forward three years. A.S. Fenichel now has nine books published with Elloraās Cave. Sheās here today to talk about her newest release, JOSHUAāS MISTAKE, Book 2 of the Psychic Mates series.
Blurb
Accused of treason and the murder of her Psychic Special Forces team, Tessa is in the custody of the FBI. Sheās shocked and terrified when the most powerful Psi Agent in the world shows up to probe her mind and discover her guilt or innocence.
Joshua never expected to find a victim of one of his probes attractive, but he canāt seem to leave her behind when all hell breaks loose. Saving the stunning blonde means being drawn into a psychic war that will definitely end his careerāand likely both of their lives.
The rhythm of their psychic auras hums to perfection and neither can fight the bond, but itās all ripped away by a madman with a grudge. Tessa falls into a coma and Joshua will have to risk his heart and soul to pull her back from the brink.Get your copy of JOSHUAāS MISTAKE now from

Karla: Congratulations on your new release, my friend! JOSHUAāS MISTAKE is the second book in the Psychic Mates series. Joshua is the brother of the hero in book 1, KANEāS BOUNTY. I remember asking you if Joshua would get his own book after I read KANEāS BOUNTY. Did you plan this series from the get-go, or was that a happy, unexpected development?
A.S.: Wow! What an intro. Thanks Karla and thanks for having me on your blog today.
I had no intention of writing another book to follow Kaneās Bounty. I wrote KB for a ācallā from the editorial staff at Elloraās Cave and that was going to be that. Like yourself, so many people read the book and asked me about Joshua and if he would have his own book. It started my wheels turning.
Karla: How many books are planned for the series, and, should they be read in order, or can each book be read as a standalone?
A.S.: Officially Iām planning on four books. Unofficially, Iāve already discovered a character in book three that is quite tempting, and I suspect people will really want more from him.Ā The books can totally stand alone. But, as is often the case, I believe readers will enjoy them more if they read them in order. Itās like visiting with old friends when characters pop up in the next book or the next.
Karla: Where did the idea of psychic bounty hunters and operatives come from?
A.S.: The ācallā I mentioned earlier was for bounty hunter related books. I saw the first scene of Kaneās Bounty in my head immediately, two bounty hunters after the same mark in a crowded bar.Ā Then I thought, what if the hero could read her mind. That intensified the entire plot and I was really excited. So if Kane is psychic, his brother probably is too, right?
In fact Joshua is THE psychic. The most powerful PSI Agent in the world. He is a total badass.
Karla: I know you use an outline when you write. Did anything take you by surprise while you were writing?
A.S.: I do use a rough outline. Iāve never written a book that stuck to my original plan exactly. Tessa was much harder to write than I expected. Sheās very complex.
With Joshuaās Mistake and the subsequent books, I saw the opportunity to have a lot of fun with different psychic abilities. It was amazing how well my crazy notions worked out. In fact, at one point something terrible happens due to Tessaās very unique ability to slow time for an instant. Iām not giving any spoilers, but I was not expecting that. š
Karla: What is your favorite aspect, or part, of JOSHUAāS MISTAKE?
A.S.: Joshua! He is sexy, smart, dangerous and yet tender and caring. Most people are afraid of him and yet heās still managed to cultivate some lasting friendships. I think people are going to really love him.
Karla: Aside from this series, what else do you have in the works?
A.S.:Ā OMG! Here’s some really exciting news. I’m working on a series called The Demon Hunters.Ā I just signed a contract with Lyrical Press, an imprint of Kensington Publishing, for the first three books. I’m so excited about these stories. The series is Historical Paranormal Romance and really different from anything you’ve seen before. The setting is in Regency England and there’s a problem with Demons. A big problem. All the books are aboutĀ the demon hunters who are fighting to saveĀ the world from evil, yet there is still room to fall in love. After all,Ā it is ROMANCE. šĀ I’ve started edits on the first book, ASCENSION and hope it will be available sometimeĀ in the summer.
Karla:Ā Congratulations! That’s fantastic news!Ā Now, here’s one last, totally fun (and difficult) question before I let you get back to writing. Of all the heroes youāve written, do you have a favorite, and if so, why?
A.S.: Oh my goodness! Unfair!! I love the one Iām with. LOLā¦ Iām writing two books now and I love the characters in them above all others. However, if I must chooseā¦ I adore Avery from Wishing Game. If I were going to leave my wonderful husband to run off with one of my characters, it would be for Avery Colton Townsend. He is a study in controlled passion. I love a man who will do the right thing no matter the cost to himself. (BTW, I married a man who is exactly like that)
Karla: Thanks for visiting today! Come back soon and talk to me about your next book. š
A.S.: Thank you, Karla. This was fun and I will most definitely come back. You canāt get rid of me so easily. š

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Have Some Faith
Welcome back for another eight-sentence snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from CUP OF SUGAR, and follows very soon after last week’s offering. Forced off the road by a horrible snowstorm, Conn and Nia have just walked into the only available motel room they could find — and discovered it only has one bed. Conn has graciously offered the bed to Nia and stated that he’ll take the couch. Nia is assessing the piece of furniture (which is actually a loveseat and does not have a pull-out bed) and Conn, as he bends over to untie his boots.
āYouāre too big, youāll never fit.ā
His boot thudded to the floor and he straightened. Returned to full height, he looked down at her with unadulterated mischief. āHave some faith, sweetheart.ā
āOn the couch.ā Shit, now her cheeks were on fire. Meaning heād for sure think sheād been referring to his cockāin her. Great, just great.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Good News is Bad News
Sunday Snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from my newest release, CUP OF SUGAR. Nia has spent the eight months since she bought her house mostly avoiding her temptingly hot neighbor… until her car dies and she accepts Conn’s offer of transportation to her long-distance destination. A horrible storm finds them lost on snow-covered backroads, low on gas, and thanking their lucky stars when a tiny roadside motel appears on the side of the road. Here’s what happens when Conn comes out from the motel office…
āThe good news is, we chanced upon the only motel in a hundred-kilometer radius before we ran out of gas or landed in a ditch — and it had a vacancy.ā
āA vacancy?ā
āYeah, one room left.ā As if cued, the red āVacancyā sign in the office window flickered to black. He held up a plastic fob with a single key dangling from its ring. āAnd itās all ours.ā
She forced a smile while donning her coat. Sharing a motel room with Conn was definitely not good news.
