Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Getting Closer
Time for another Sunday snippet. đ Remember to check out the list of participating Weekend Writing Warriors when you’re done here.
For the next four weeks, I’ll be continuing with little excerpts from CUP OF SUGAR. If you’ve been following along, or you’ve already read the book, you know that new-ish neighbors Conn and Nia have taken an unexpected road trip together. After an unexpected (and seriously hot) night together in a roadside motel, they’ve arrived at Nia’s parents’ house, where Nia received some bad news about a childhood pet.
âYou okay?â He kept his voice lowâhe could do that, since he was now standing directly behind her, close enough for her to smell his aftershave. He settled his big hands on her shoulders, gently kneading.
She groaned, which was definitely a mistake, because it made him pull her closer. He was so solid and warm, she wanted to melt into him. Let him console her about Princess. Watch him get comfortable with her family. Oh, and she wanted to rub her ass against the front of his jeansâthen turn and kiss him until she couldnât see straight. There was that.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – It Could Get Awkward If…
Welcome back to another eight sentences from CUP OF SUGAR, brought to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. I don’t think this snippet needs much introduction. Â đ
âYou want me to stop?â He punctuated the question by circling her belly button with the tip of his tongue.
She shook her head, prompting Conn to slide her pants lower. Not all the way down, the silky bottoms still covered the most important part, though the fabric did nothing to mask the heat from his mouth when he pressed it against her core.
âConn, we shouldnât…itâll be awkward seeing each other every day if the sex sucks.â
His chuckle vibrated between her legs. His eyes twinkled up at her, and when he lifted his head, his smile was down-and-dirty hot. âIt wonât suck, Nia.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Just a Kiss
Thanks for joining me and the rest of the Weekend Writing Warriors as we offer up eight-sentence excerpts from our work.
We’re spending time with Conn and Nia, neighbors who are getting a whole lot closer on New Year’s Eve. When Nia’s car died, Conn stepped up and offered to drive Nia to her long-distance destinationâin a snow storm. Weather forced them to take refuge in a small motel that only had one room remaining. Oh, fate. Â đ
This time, he didnât hesitate. Just sealed his mouth against hers and took control.
She opened for him. Welcomed his tongue inside, greeting it with hers. A New Yearâs Eve kiss, thatâs as far as sheâd let this go. Her brain failed to get that message to her hands, though, because they were in the process of pulling off Connâs t-shirt.
âYouâre so hard,â she said, running her palms over his chest.
âSweetheart, you have no idea.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Invitation Accepted
Time for another eight-sentence Sunday snippet from CUP OF SUGAR. Click here for a list of other participants in the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
Today’s bite-sized excerpt follows closely after last week’s offering. New-ish neighbors Conn and Nia are spending New Year’s Eve snowed in at a rural motel.  (Catch up on past posts from the story here.) They’re watching the celebration from New York’s Times Square, and Nia has invited Conn to sit beside her on the room’s only bed for a better view of the TV. (I’m sure she has no ulterior motives. đ )
Well, Conn is a big, solid guy and you know how squishy and wobbly those motel-room beds can be…
âI donât mind if you move overâŚyou know, so you donât fall off the edge of the bed.â
Invitation accepted. The springy mattress pitched her against him as he edged closer. Her breast pressed against his biceps and her hand landed high on his quadriceps. A couple inches to the north and sheâd have had something entirely different to grab hold of.
âSorry.â Her apology came out soft and breathy. She hadnât stopped leaning on his arm — nor had she looked away.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Pretzelgasm
Thanks for stopping by to read my Sunday Snippet. This eight-sentence bite is from my recent release, CUP OF SUGAR, and comes to you as part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
If you’ve been following along on Sundays, you already know that Conn and Nia have been neighbors for eight months, during which Conn has been pulling out all the stops (and taking off his clothes near the window) to get Nia’s attention. But Nia has a rule about dating neighbors, so she has been doing her best to avoid the hunky man next door. (Though she has certainly enjoyed watching him get into his shower.)
Currently though, they’re sharing a motel room late on a snowy New Year’s Eve. (Catch up on previous snippets here.) They’re watching TV (well, sort of) and Conn has just given Nia a bag of Combos to snack on.
She tore into the bag like a kid would a Christmas present. She popped the first pretzel piece into her mouth and closed her eyes. Her lips moved in a circular motion and her cheeks hollowed. Then she moaned. The woman looked and sounded as if she was on the verge of an orgasm. From pretzels.
Jesus, how would she respond to his face between her legs, or his cock buried deep in her body while he kissed her? He was never going to make it through this night.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Can’t Look Away
For a list of writers participating in the Sunday Snippet meme, check out the Weekend Writing Warriors website.
Today we’re in Conn’s head, as he and Nia are sharing the only motel room available during a horrible snow storm that forced them off the road late on New Year’s Eve. Conn is watching TV when Nia steps out of the motel bathroom in her pajamas…
Her pale-pink pants werenât see-through, but they might as well have been, because it was plenty evident she didnât have anything underneath. With each step she took, the little tank top shifted, rising to tease him with a hint of creamy skin. Those pants rode damn low on her hips. Hips he needed to run his hands over while she rode him.
âOh, lookâŚâ she pointed at the TV while crawling onto the bed, âRobin Thicke is performing.â
Conn didnât want to look. He didnât care who was performing. Hell, they could dedicate the next song to him, live from New York City, and he still wouldnât give a shit.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Have Some Faith
Welcome back for another eight-sentence snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from CUP OF SUGAR, and follows very soon after last week’s offering. Forced off the road by a horrible snowstorm, Conn and Nia have just walked into the only available motel room they could find — and discovered it only has one bed. Conn has graciously offered the bed to Nia and stated that he’ll take the couch. Nia is assessing the piece of furniture (which is actually a loveseat and does not have a pull-out bed) and Conn, as he bends over to untie his boots.
âYouâre too big, youâll never fit.â
His boot thudded to the floor and he straightened. Returned to full height, he looked down at her with unadulterated mischief. âHave some faith, sweetheart.â
âOn the couch.â Shit, now her cheeks were on fire. Meaning heâd for sure think sheâd been referring to his cockâin her. Great, just great.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Good News is Bad News
Sunday Snippet time, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s bite-sized excerpt is from my newest release, CUP OF SUGAR. Nia has spent the eight months since she bought her house mostly avoiding her temptingly hot neighbor… until her car dies and she accepts Conn’s offer of transportation to her long-distance destination. A horrible storm finds them lost on snow-covered backroads, low on gas, and thanking their lucky stars when a tiny roadside motel appears on the side of the road. Here’s what happens when Conn comes out from the motel office…
âThe good news is, we chanced upon the only motel in a hundred-kilometer radius before we ran out of gas or landed in a ditch — and it had a vacancy.â
âA vacancy?â
âYeah, one room left.â As if cued, the red âVacancyâ sign in the office window flickered to black. He held up a plastic fob with a single key dangling from its ring. âAnd itâs all ours.â
She forced a smile while donning her coat. Sharing a motel room with Conn was definitely not good news.

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Get To Know You
Sunday Snippet time, where I post an eight-sentence excerpt from one of my books. Just a little bite to entice you to buy it and read the whole thing, I admit it. đ Â Visit the Weekend Writing Warriors website for a list of authors participating in this meme.
This week we’re with Nia, the heroine of CUP OF SUGAR, as she settles into the passenger seat of her handsome neighbor’s truck. Nia has spent the past eight months doing her best to keep her distance from the tempting hunk next door. Conn came to her rescue when her car broke down in the driveway by offering a ride to her long-distance destination. Now they’re about to spend at least six hours together in close quarters. Nia is having second thoughts about accepting his generous offer of transportation…
âHow about I say goodnight, go in my house and we just go back to the way things were?â
Conn found the end of her seatbelt and clicked it into place. âGoing back never works out.â
âI wouldnât know, Iâm more of a ârun far, far awayâ person.â
âLook at thatânot even out of the driveway and Iâm already getting to know you.â He tapped the GPS console again, then put the truck in reverse. âAnd now Iâll tell you something about me. I only do things I want to do, sweetheart.â

Sunday Snippet – CUP OF SUGAR – Somebody Has Been Spying
Welcome to another Sunday Snippet, part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.
This week’s snippet is from CUP OF SUGAR, my new hot contemporary. This bit follows shortly after last week’s. (There’s a pretty funny scene in between, but it’s too long for the Sunday Snippet. Click here to read more.) In today’s bite-size excerpt, Nia has accepted her neighbor’s offer of a lift after her car died, and she’s about to get into Conn’s truck for a six-hour drive to her parents’ house. Maybe. đ
Niaâs hands shook as she locked the house. But the shaking had nothing on the wild thumping in her chest when she stepped out her back door and came face to face with her hunky neighbor. The guy sheâd purposely been avoiding since she took possession of her house back in April. The man whoâd been one half of a committed couple when she put the offer on this place, but who was most definitely single by the time she moved in. There were more stray women around his house than there were stray cats. Of course, his massive dog kept the felines at bay. Whereas Connâs massive everything attracted the women.
And yes, she did mean everything —Â he really ought to install blinds in his bathroom.
