    Sunday Snippet-Body of Work

It’s June! How did this happen? 😉

Thanks for stopping by to check out my Sunday snippet. This excerpt is from my May release, BODY OF WORK, and comes to you via the Weekend Warrior Writers.

She handed the bartender the cash and lifted the glass. The aromas of sugar and alcohol filled her nose. She believed him that it’d taste good, but she bet the innocent-looking concoction still held the power to numb her face. “It’s really pretty, what is it?”

    “Loch Ness Monster.”

“Ooh, sounds dangerous — should I be scared?”

Another laugh as he placed her change on the bar. “Only if you have multiple sightings.”

Yup, that’s a real drink. Here’s how you make it:

In a glass, layer equal quantities of melon liqueur, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and JĂ€germeister, in that order. Then, bottoms up!

Today’s Sunday Snippet comes from my May release, BODY OF WORK, and is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.

The heroine, Cassie, is a photographer. In this snippet, she’s getting ready to shoot a couple of her repeat clients, Paolo and Beth. I hope this excerpt makes you curious about Cassie’s photography business, and well, the rest of the book, too! 😉

Paolo was a demanding partner, sexually — unyielding and rough at times. Through it all, his complete adoration of Beth was more obvious than the sun on the most brilliant summer day. And it went both ways. Cassie had shot her share of engagement and wedding photos, pictures of couples allegedly at the pinnacle of true love. None of those brides or brides-to-be compared to the depth of emotion Cassie saw in Beth’s eyes. Every time Paolo reddened Beth’s porcelain skin with his palm, paddle or teeth, Cassie saw Beth’s love for him ratchet higher. She gave what he wanted. He took what she needed him to take.

This Sunday’s eight sentences are from my new release, BODY OF WORK, and part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme.

In this snippet, Cassie has arrived at the gym and she’s walking through the parking lot.

She spied Brian’s dark-green Jeep near the door. Due to last night’s storm, the top was up and the doors in place. Not the norm. The man preferred it stripped to the bare bones, a deathtrap on four thick wheels. She’d only seen him driving it one time, but the image was a keeper. Ginger-haired lumberjack of a man with one hand on the wheel, one hand on the roll bar overhead, his left foot sticking out the doorless gap as he peeled into the lot. A man’s vehicle had never done much for her until the day she saw Brian in this Jeep. Consider her among the converted.

Can you picture him? I hope so!

BODY OF WORK is now available from Amazon, Kobo, All Romance, Ellora’s Cave.

Thanks for visiting. Have a great day 🙂

In this scene, Brian and Cassie are in her bedroom, ‘together’ together for the first time. They’ve agreed to swap evidence of their mutual attraction, which, to this point, neither had acted on. It’s Cassie’s turn to â€Čfess up.

“I took your picture at the gym — with my phone — more than one picture, actually.”

A massive grin spread across his face. “You really are sneaky. What did you do with the pictures?”

Oh, the usual, propped the phone against her pillow and looked at them while masturbating. “Nothing.” She sounded like a woman who’d crossed the desert without a drop to drink.

    “I’d like to see that.”

    Blurb:

Cassie has fantasized about the ginger-haired personal trainer for months. Brian is friendly, but never more—until he appears on her doorstep and shows her how much her flirting has affected him. The more she’s with him, the more Cassie wants the fairytale, not just hot sex with the six-two hunk. She can give Brian full access to her body, but after her ex’s reaction to her explicit photography business, sharing her secrets, and her heart, isn’t an option.

Brian knows better than to break the rules. Don’t date gym members. Keep his inner beast on a leash during sex. Cassie tested his resolve on number one her first day in the gym. Shattered the second rule when he touched her. The petite pixie shares his preferences in the bedroom. She makes him laugh and love—but past mistakes haunt him, emotionally and tangibly. Cassie’s worth the price he’ll pay for breaking the rules. Now he must convince her to give him her heart.

Her hands snaked up his chest, her nails making him shudder as they scraped the back of his neck then pushed through his hair. “I always wondered about this, how it would feel.”

Felt like fucking heaven to him. “And?”

“Very soft.” She arched her body tight against his. “Unlike the rest of you.”

If only she knew the truth of that statement.

Sunday Snippet-04/28/2013 – Body of Work

Welcome, and thanks for stopping by. Today’s eight-sentence snippet is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme, and comes from the early pages of my May 1st release, BODY OF WORK.

The past couple weeks have been from Cassie’s POV, as she finishes her workout and drools over the handsome, ginger-haired personal trainer at the gym. (Click here for previous snippets.) In the following excerpt, we’re with the hero, Brian, later that same night.

Brian rolled to a stop on Sloane Street. He killed the engine and stared through the rain-covered window of his Jeep at the white bungalow. If he did this, if he knocked on Cassie’s door at quarter to one in the morning, there’d be no going back.

A man could only take so much. The petite brunette had caught his eye from day one. She’d been torturing him for months—chatting, teasing him with comments that made her blush, openly flirting with him while she exercised. He’d have made his move immediately if not for his stupid contract.

Which led him back to the decision at hand—to knock on her door or drive away?

Only a few more days until BODY OF WORK hits the virtual shelves! For now, you can read an excerpt or add it to Goodreads. (There’s already an ARC review up there, if you’re interested.)

She grabbed the sanitizer and turned, shrieking when she face-planted into a wide expanse of chest. “Geez, you need bells on your shoes or something.” She looked up, then up some more until she got to his face. A tidy, super-short ginger beard and mustache framed sensual pink lips. Did the man ever not look delicious? Much more of this innocent contact and she might not make it out of the building before giving in to her body’s aching demands. A quickie in the ladies’ locker room—solo edition.

Brian is a personal trainer at Cassie’s gym. He’s also the star of many of her best dreams. In this snippet, Cassie’s struggling to push through the last part of her chest workout. The hulking, hunky trainer has just appeared behind the weight bench, challenging her to do two more reps, and she has insisted she can’t.

Here are eight sentences from page one…

Brian’s hands covered hers on the bar, blocking her from quitting. Also, setting off a riot of naughty thoughts about what they could do on this weight bench. Thank god her face was already beet red from the workout.

    “You can, I’ll spot you.”

“Check my membership—I’m not paying for personal training.”

“No charge for my services tonight.”

In that case, she had a list of services she’d like to add to her tab. Sweaty, naked services that did not involve this barbell.

    Sunday Snippet-04/07/2013

Welcome 🙂 Today’s eight-sentence snippet is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme, and comes from my childhood friends to lovers WIP. After thirteen years apart, Matthias and Caroline have gone out for dinner to catch up and, at this moment, reminisce about the summer before ninth grade when they shared their first –and only– kiss in a classmate’s garden shed. Matthias has suprised Caroline by describing specific details from that day, twenty years earlier.

“Guys remember their first kiss too.”

Maybe so, but she doubted the majority of them remembered what the girl had worn or which variety of Herbal Essences shampoo she’d used. “After I shut the door, I stepped closer to you, like, really close. Do you remember what happened next?”

“I do, but I’d rather not say.” His grin didn’t look embarrassed in the slightest.

    “Oh, really
you were, um, excited?”

“Nerds do get stimulated in places other than their brains.”

Welcome back 🙂 Today’s eight-sentence snippet is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors meme. Click over for a complete list of participants.

This is the last week (for now) that I’ll be posting from my childhood-friends-to-lovers story. This excerpt follows very closely after last week’s snippet. Matthias and Caroline haven’t seen each other for thirteen years, and they’re about to go out for dinner. As friends? Is it date? Caroline’s not entirely sure. (P.S.: it’s a frigid November night.)

His hands curled around her lapels and he pulled her into his space. She gasped and he smiled—the same amazing smile she’d inwardly melted over years ago. He maneuvered the top button of her coat into its corresponding hole, then the second. The third button slipped through its slot, his hands lingering before sliding sideways to cup her waist. Not once did his eyes stray from her face.

“I might’ve been a nerdy nobody, but I was still a teenage boy, and you were the most beautiful girl in school. Of course I thought about touching you.”

“If you wanted to, why didn’t you ever try?”
